How the two technologies differ

• **Inkjet** sprays liquid ink onto paper. It handles photographs, gradients and glossy media well,

• **Laser** fuses powdered toner onto paper with heat. It produces very crisp text, prints faster in
• volume, and toner does not dry out when the printer sits unused.

• **Idle tolerance.** Inkjet nozzles can clog if the printer is unused for weeks; cleaning cycles
• then consume ink. Laser is unaffected by long idle periods.
